News Item Text adalah jenis teks dalam Bahasa Inggris yang memberikan informasi akan sebuah peristiwa penting yang layak dijadikan berita (news).

Purpose

The purpose is to inform readers about events of the day (Tujuan teks ini adalah untuk memberi informasi mengenai peristiwa penting kepada pembaca).

Generic Structure

Main event (Peristiwa utama)

Bagian yang menceritakan tentang ringkasan dari suatu kejadian atau peristiwa utama dalam teks tersebut.

Background event/elaboration (Latar belakang peristiwa)

Bagian yang menceritakan tentang latar belakang kejadian atau peristiwa yang terjadi. Bagian ini meliputi siapa saja yang terlibat, serta di mana, dan bagaimana peristiwa tersebut terjadi.

Language Features of News Item Text

Simple Present tense : She comes alone and someone attacks her
Action Verb : attack, observe, build, see, come, take, put, work, listen, walk, etc.
Saying Verb : say, speak, tell, yell, scream, reply, shout, suggest, exclaim, etc
Adverb of time : Now, today, later, soon, yesterday, last night, tonight, three days ago, etc.
Adverb of place and manner : slowly, quickly, sadly, happily, easily, carefully, carelessly, etc
Passive Voice : She is observed by the observer.
Direct speech : He said “I am going to your school today”
Indirect speech : He said that that he is going to my school that day

The Surabaya Police have arrested a man, identified only as MN, for allegedly buying an infant via Instagram.

MN was arrested at his house on Jl. Karah in Jambangan district in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday. He was found to have paid some Rp 3.8 million (US$250) for a baby boy when he was only three days olD.

Surabaya police chief Sr. Comr. Rudi Setiawan said recently that the transaction was conducted in Semarang, Central Java, on Sept. 23. The baby’s parents live in Tangerang in Banten.

“The baby is now safe with the Surabaya administration,” Rudi said on Monday (The Jakarta Post, Tue, October 16, 2018)
